2008 had been a record-breaking year for the Munich Airport, despite the global meltdown. During this year, Bavaria’s international aviation hub was used by, more than 34.5 million passengers. This was a 2% increase over 2007. Munich Airport recorded the second-highest growth rate. Rome was the only airport ahead of them. Munich also got the seventh place among the top ten airports of Europe. Munich improved its position in the international rankings, for three years in a row, as it advanced from the 28th to the 27th place. This is a commendable achievement by the Munich Airport as it had only the 51st rank among all the airports of the world when it was inaugurated in 1992. 2008 saw only few important European hubs increase their volume of passengers.
